i am going to explain as best i can
a week ago my 91 xj 4.0l 2xx,xxx miles started making a new noise. i can't figure out quite where it is, more to the front bottom, but it sounds like a bearing going bad. i hear it at idle but can't hear it at speed but does sound louder at warm idle than cold idle (does that make sense?) any help and questions welcome thanks in advance buster

ok today i pulled belt and checked flex plate bolts both of which yielded no results. still have noise can't tell if it is a bearing or what any other ideas

Get a mechanic's stethoscope and start probing for the source.

You can use a 3-foot section of vinyl tubing, and that will get you close.

i checked flex plate bolts one was loose, i did not check for it to be broken.how do i check for loose torque converter

Really bright spot light, rotate the engine, use a pry bar and watch for excess movement or any visible cracks. If you pull the plugs the engine will turn easier.
