!@#$ drunk drivers...

So my buddy was on his way to my house the other day to pick up some stuff I had for him, he was sitting at a red turn light, and traffic going straight had the green. A drunk driver coming his way was swerving in and out passing people, slammed into a woman and threw her up into the k-rail, she flipped multiple times. Meanwhile the drunk came sliding across the intersection at about 60mph. Lee saw the whole thing coming and was trying to back up when he hit him. He hit with enough force to explode the transmission on Lee's F350. Here are the results:

The drunk driver did not live, thankfully. Lee and his wife are ok, no word on the woman who flipped.
 
dude was this the accident on ramona expressway and sanderson??? my buddy passed through a wreck over there yesterday he described the truck as if it were lees!
 
Looks terrible. but that truck looks like it needs a new bumper and thats about it. how the hell does a car smacking the truck, explode the tranny?

Not being able to see the other side....I would bet that it needs a lot more than that. Trans probably went when the impact suddenly decided to turn the rear wheels hard and fast...cracked the output maybe, or could have just shook the truck that hard. I had a t bone in my El Camino one time that bent the drive shaft....from the motor TRYING to move. Motor mounts were still good and no other damage, but the force of impact bent the driveshaft :D

yeah my brother was in a coma for 5 weeks and thankfully is going to walk with a cane for the rest of his life bcuz of some drunk- she's doing 18 months probation. i x2 on the right person- although I am a fan of corporal punishment.

glad your friends are ok, hope the lady is okay.
 
Yeah I hope the lady is doing alright, glad to hear your friends are doing good. Hopefully they don't total out that Ford, it looks to be a strong truck.
I remember the only accident I was in when driving... happened in the Jeep no doubt. I was sitting at a light, across the street was the insurance company I needed to go to to get my insurance stuff taken care of. Well anyway an elderly woman hopped up on prescriptions slams into me... I don't think she even noticed the light was red. The Jeep got a couple scratches on the bumper and the tail pipe was knocked down, her Escort was about 6 inches shorter. She pretty much drove under the Jeep.
A family friend of mine told me she was in a similar accident with a similar lady, probably was the same one. Apparently the family of that elderly lady just keeps giving her cars after she crashes them or something from what I heard.
 
Well I am glad your friend is ok, I don't really agree with wishing all drunk drivers dead. I have been on both sides of it I have been busted for a dui, and I also have been hit buy a drunk driver, and it messed me up pretty bad when I got hit. I have also been solber for over 3 years. I guess if none of you have never drank and driven then I see where you stand, but if you have ever drank a beer and driven then I think you are wrong to wish death on someone. I am sure the drunk driver had a family and it was their fault for drinking and driving but it will be hard on the family. I am sure I will get beat up for posting this but I don't think right to post up so negatively on the dead drunk driver. Again I am glad your friend is ok.

Drinking ONE beer and driving isn't drunk driving. Being past the legal limit and driving... AND injuring or killing someone is a totally different thing. I don't think anyone (except JohnX, wassup! :cheers:) that thinks they're equally bad. I know I personally NEVER drive if I've had more than ONE beer, and even then it had better been at least an hour before I plan to drive... But that's just me. You having had a DUI means you were behind the wheel with a BAC greater than .08, you're lucky you didn't hurt yourself or someone else. Congrats on the sobriety though! :thumbup:
 
I don't think you should get beat up for it. The stupid drunk did have a family, and it is nice of you to think of the idiots family. Thank God your friends are ok, a small car would not have faired so well.
 
Yea, it was an escort. Apparently he had hit someone a few blocks back and was running away. No regard whatsoever, now do you still feel bad for him?

And Cory, yea it was at sanderson and ramona expy.

Also, to those asking about the tranny, apparently it was the transfer case that exploded, his front driveshaft punched through it from the force on the front axle.

This is the car the guy flipped. Further info on the story is he hit someone back at state and ramona expressway and was running. The guy hit this car and didn't immediately flip it. He stayed on the throttle (may have been passed out) and shoved her up the k-rail and flipped her. She's ok.

If you look at that picture, it's probably 150 feet away from the intersection, plus another 20-30 feet to where Lee was sitting. Lee said from the point he flipped the car to the time he hit him, he was full throttle spinning tire and accelerating as fast as an escort could possibly accelerate. He hit Lee doing a good 60-70mph.

His bumper flew 30 feet past the wreck, and a motor mount was 10 feet past that. Smirnoff bottles and broken glass were everywhere, along with numerous beer cans, some of which actually landed in Lee's bed of his truck.

Good riddance is what I say. Get one more off the road.
