Alternator Interchange?????

I need a higher amp Alternator.. Are there any alternator from other vehicles that are interchangeable with an XJ? Same size and mounting, but Higher Output.

I'm assuming you have the 90 amp alternator? Why not try the 120 amp? Both my 97 & 98 came with the 120's. I think all 97+ XJ's had 120's.

The problem is that you will probably either need to modify your bracket or replace the bracket. Ofcourse you are going to have to mod the bracket for about any alternator. I don't believe there is one single drop in alternator that would be an upgrade.

What are the specs of the jeep?

96, 4.0, AW4, 231, 3.5" lift.. Mine is the 90amp, I know I can get a 120 from later models and 136amp from V8 ZJ's. I read somewhere about a 160amp but can't remember the swap vehicle. Was hoping we could come up with other possible interchanges.

The 96 shows a 90 & 120 amp alternator. They are the same part numbers as the alternators for a 97 & 98. A 120 would be a direct bolt. Anything else would require mods to the alternator or the bracket.
