Some how I missed the news on this back in July, but I caught it in the news earlier this week when there was a ceremony commemorating him in the news...

He was one of the greatest TV news anchors of all time. He covered the JFK assasination (live, I was 8 at the time) and the Moon landing (live), the civil rights riots and Vietnam war all in the 1960s......I remember a TV history series he did that we watched in a high school history class in the early 70's, his famous line in the series was "and You Were There!" LOL.

Seems he was a student of Edward R. Murrow (look up Murrow & McCarthyism, and black lists), one of the great Journalists of all time.

Here is a little bit posted by a friend of his:

Seems he was raised in Houston too! But was born in Missourri, the "Show me" state, LOL.

He was 92. He was a student at UT, worked for the Houston Post before WWII, he served as chief United Press correspondent at the Nuremberg trials, and from the link above, "The public's perception of him as honest, objective and level-headed led to his popular title as "the most trusted man in America." His nightly sign-off, "and that's the way it is," was his trademark"

He was of that genre where ethics and morals actually worked. Not like now where ethics will trample morals every time.

Him and Paul Harvey both seemed to present topics of the day and get the job done (fairly) objectively without being radical about the whole process.
Chronkite didn't seem to be blatantly biased or agenda driven. Though he was a force in the anti Vietnam war movement.

Here is the guy who taught him the big leagues. If you have not seen the movie, "Good Night & Good Luck" it is worth watching. From what I have read they worked together in London reporting WWII.
