Replacing my '89 Cherokee radio

I have an '89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with the original AM/FM radio. I'd like to replace it with a modern radio with CD/MP3, thumb drive option, etc.

How compatible with modern radios is the current bezel opening on the dash? The present radio sits behind the bezel opening and flush up against it.

They're not bad at all. Just get the install kit to finish off the trim, I didn't have to do any cutting on mine.
