are lift kits interchangeable

Well I did a search an couldn't find the answer so I figured I would just ask the question. So do lift kits interchange what i'm trying to say is does a lift kit for a 98 xj swap into say the later xj's like 80's or 90's thanks for any helpful input!!!:wave1:
 
Well heres the scoop I have a 98 xj with the n.p.231 T.C. AN 4.0 with the 8.25 rear. I have a 2" O.M.E w/ a B.B. well the body is in bad shape an so is the motor w/236,xxx miles on it. But I like the lift set up, skids an stuff I have plus don't want to drop more coin on that stuff again. So now i'm looking for a new rig so I need to know if they are interchangeable or just stay with 97 + years.:wave1:
