How to remove u-joint cap?

Trying to remove u-joint and have this problem.
Hope someone could help out. I'm stuck here. How do you guys remove this cap? It's on very tight...

Here's how the other side looks.

you will be able to get the cap off once the u-joint pushes it through the hole. look at the pics in this http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/ujoint1/u-joint-2.htm

you can use a vise or C-clamp and some oversized sockets for the same effect

Gotcha. With a vise and a small socket backwards on the exposed part of the joint, I might be able to push it through? I would need a socket large enough for the metal cap to go in, right?

Will locate a vise.. Thanks..

yeah you need one socket that is small enough to push the u-joint through and another socket that is big enough for the cap to go all the way into

Buy, borrow or rent a Ball Joint Press. Most parts stores will loan you a tool if you buy their parts. It will make the job much faster and will reduce the amount of cussing and sockets flying across the garage.

Gonna get the press, it's $100 at autozone. You get the money back when returned.

Thanks for the input. Was able to get it out. Now I have to find a ride to AZ and get the press...
