I am new to jeep cherokee I have a 1996 xj
want to put some wheels from a 2006 Jeep Rubicon Black Moab Wheels and MTRs with 31.10.50 16 wheels and tires i want to know will these fit with out lift and scrubbing if not is 2 or 3 inches best and what is a good inexpensive lift to use thank you all for any help with matter..

Don't think bolt pattern is the same.. But for 31's you can get away with 2" and trimming, I have 3.5" and 31's fit no trimming. I do get rubbing on the lower control arms at full steering lock.

Just a few questions so someone may be able to help you out better.

Do you wish to keep your Stock Fender Flares?
Is it going to be a Mall Crawler or are you planning to use your XJ for any Offroading and what type of Offroading do you wish to do if you do?
Are you planning to Lift your XJ in the future and what would would like to Lift it to if you do?

If you wish to do a inexpensive junk yard lift that will work pretty well Offroad:
http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Suspension_Steering_Axles_and_Brakes/Budget_Lift.htm

At 2.5" of Lift or over, I would suggest an Adjustable Track Bar like this one: http://www.ironman4x4fab.com/Jeep_XJ_Track_Bars/XJ_FTB.html otherwise your Front Axle Assembly may not Center correctly IMHO.

At 3"s of Lift you can still use your Stock Control Arms, however, they are not very strong for a lot of Offroading IMHO. At 4"s of lift one should swap in Aftermarket Lower Control Arms. I would suggest Adjustable Lower Control Arms like these: http://www.ironman4x4fab.com/Jeep_XJ_Control_Arms/XJ_LCA.html or these: http://www.ironman4x4fab.com/Jeep_XJ_Control_Arms/XJ_LCA(F).html

You more than likely will not need a Drop Pitman Arm until 3"s of Lift IMHO.

There are a lot of ways to do a small Lift and some Jeepers say this and that works. Some are posting nonsense and other's not. I would look at Similar Posts listed at the bottom of this Page or try a Search if you wish.

This is just my Opinion and Welcome to NAXJA.

Hope this helps.

Bolt pattern is the same up through 06. The JKs have the different pattern (and larger wheel size). If it's a 16" Moab, it'll fit. There was just a thread on this in the last week.

As you could see by my small Chart. The Bolt Pattern is the same for a '04 to '06 Wrangler Rubican and a Cherokee.

If you choose to do a Junk Yard Lift, while at the Junk Yard I would suggest looking for some Skid Plates (Engine, Transmission, Fuel Tank) off a XJ and pick up a ZJ V8 Tie Rod. I would look and see if any XJ has Front Tow Hooks and/or a Hitch and you will have Tow Points as well. Maybe, if you are really lucky, you will find a Junked XJ with Offroad Front and Rear Bumpers as a friend of mine did. That would be Awesome.

What I have suggested is probably the cheapest way to have as complete a lift with as much of Flex you would need to fit 31" Tires under a XJ and keep your Fender Flares and not have to cut up the Fenders. IMHO

Other's may have other suggestions.

yes I want to keep stock fenders

no it will be mostley street some mudding no rocks

if i lift it it will be 3 inches thats as high as i will go

Then all you will need:

3" Lift Front Coil Springs
Rear Brake Line Extensions
3" Lift Rear Leaf Springs (Do Not use an Add A Leaf as they have a tendency to Flatten Out after just a couple of months or so, mine did).
I would still suggest an Adjustable Control Arm like this http://www.ironman4x4fab.com/Jeep_XJ_Track_Bars/XJ_FTB.html otherwise your Front Axle Assembly may not Center correctly IMHO.
Sway Bar Extended End Links or Quick Disconnects
Nitro 9000 Shocks (for a smoother ride than the Hydro 8000s)

This would give you a better ride than a 2" Budget Lift with Spacers and Shackles and you can keep your Fender Flares. (Do Not go with a 3" Spacer, IMHO)

Hope this helps.
