Lets adopt a trail

So I have been kicking the thought around on the trail adopt for naxja and seems I'm not the only one. So lets see who all wants to get in on this.
I'll start doing some checking in to it to find out what all it takes to do this and I think Glue&Tape has pick a good trail for us to look in to, this is what he has posted in the pay it forward thread.
#10 University Fire Power Trail- The section of the trail between Beaver Dam Road and University Falls Road is temporarily closed due to winter storm damage. An old puncheon culvert was damaged and the trail over the old puncheon culvert is eroded to the point that it is impassable to all vehicle traffic. A new culvert will need to be installed. No timeline has been set for repair work. The rest of University Firepower Trail is open.

Not to sure what it will take or the money that might need to be raised, but I'm going to do some checking in to it and see. When I know what we need to do I will be posting in this thread, for now lets see how many people are interested in this.

We already have a trail adopted in North-end, Walker, just fyi. But imo a south end trail seems like a good idea too.

P.S. We doing any trail repair runs at Walker one of these days?

Adopting a trail at TSF is a great idea. I think Rod will chime in with contact info any minute. Once we figure out what trails are not spoken for, we can pick one.

As Scott said, we have already adopted a trail at Walker Valley (Expressway).
And adopting one down at TSF, and other locations would be a great idea (just make sure you have support from enough people to help maintain the trails).

For the most part how it works is you are the ones responsible for keeping it clean and maintained and if you need supplies you talk to the DNR (or other managing body for the area) and they will provide you with other resources and materials (i.e. they need the help of manpower not necessarily money, of course that may be VERY different this year due to funding).

Our trail is currently holding up well. We will be doing a more formal clean up run toward the end of the summer.

Well I'm down for getting one at TSF thats more what I was thinking I wasn't sure of the location on the trail that was posted about. Going to have to put some heads together and see what trail we would want to adopt at TSF. Any one got any ideas?

I think the first thing to do would be getting the required info from ODF (Stephanie). See what all is involved first with adopting a trail, and how much freedom we would have with the trail. Then find out who all is willing to commit to the work and hours needed. Getting people to commit and stay involved is my biggest concern.

Cascade Cruisers - Airplane Hill
Jolly Jeepers - Arhcers Firebreak
Sore 4x4 - Canopener (rumor?)
Raven Offroad - Crushers

Hogs Back, Hood Raiser, Cedar Tree, and FB5 are some possible candidates.

You need to get that done before the labor day trip.
I vote for hogs back or rocky up hill.

I think we should pick a broken / closed trail and restore it so it may reopen. It would have the best impact to keeping our trails open. Although it would take more money and time.

I would hope with the collective amount of resources we could have some pretty creative money raising and support ideas.

Ok well then I say while we are up there on sunday we look around for one that needs work to be reopened. But I really hope we can get some more people in on this. So far isn't looking like to many people are interested, lets hope for more the thread is still new.

I think its a great idea. I'll gladly helpout with the cause.

Well we are getting a few in on this but not as many as I was thinkinng and hoping for. I know we will need a good amount of man power to do this so really would like to see more people in on it.

To the top!

I got a good look at how trail adoption works from the work party yesterday, and I think it would be great to have the PDX NWC adopt a trail at TSF. Basically we would be responsible for keeping the trail maintained (ie: litter, fallen trees, water bar clean outs, drainage, illegal bypass block offs, etc). From what I was told yesterday there is no required amount of time a club is required to put in. We could put in 1 day of work a year or 365 days of work. However, we would be responsible for any sudden maintenance issues if the trail should require it. If we feel that the trail needs some serious work, we can talk with ODF, and maybe get a grant or funding to make it happen. We don't need an army of volunteers; I think there are a enough of us members who would be up for putting in a couple days of work per year. Not to mention we are usually down there on a monthly basis year round so keeping an eye on the trail shouldn't be a problem.

I was stunned by the involvement/relationship of the local clubs with ODF yesterday. It seems like almost all the 4x4 trails have been adopted (time is ticking), and are being maintained. The few trails I ran yesterday were looking really well. The litter situation has also improved. With the amount of members we have, and how frequently some of us use the area, I think stepping up and working with ODF would be a great thing.

Now who is still up for this?

I am!

In Like Flinn..

Can they provide a list of trails? Is FB5 adopted. I don't recall a sign.

I would like to purpose to ODF, perhaps we can help out by improving the Street Sign Situation. Maybe some signs that that have arrows to trails at major junctions.

I sent Jahmaal an email. Just to follow up with him from our ride on Airplane hill.

How cool is the title "OHV Specialist" on your business cards.
