Heat A/C Only thru Defroster???

On my recently purchased 97 XJ I am only gettinh heat and A/C through the defroster vents. Normally I wouldn't care but it's starting to get hot here and its killing me!!

The only obvious problem i can find is there is a very small vacuum line comeing out of the firewall(pass side by the heater hose inlets) that is broken.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

You have found the problem. Fix the vacuum line. The "mode" door is controlled by a vacuum motor and defaults to defrost when it looses vacuum.
