i blew the tranny line on my 88 xj 4.0 .it has the aw-4.i blew the line that connects to the top of the radiator.is this the supply line or the return line?

Tranny cooler flow is supposed to be the opposite of the radiator flow, so the top SHOULD be the outlet. But I am not sure if they did it "right".

Correct, the outlet is at the top and the fluid returns to the rear port on the tranny. Primary reason is so that it's self bleeding and doesn't trap air.
