ok so i have a 73-75 dana 44 out of a f100 i belive and i have the spindles, stub shafts, calipers, rotors, and hubs out of a 82 f150. everything seems to be fitting in place good but the ttb axle didnt have a backing plate for the knuckles and the caliper mounted straight to them. can i find a dana 44 backing plate for ford calipers or can i use a chevy and buy chevy rotors and pads. or will i have to scrap all the parts that i have and start over. ill try to post pics asap.

You might be able to use Chevy backing plates and calipers on that.

Are you sure those spindles are from a late model Ford? I thought that they used a 5 bolt, rather then the 6 bolt used on early Fords and Chevy/FS Jeeps.

the spindles came of a 82 ford f150 with a dana 44 twin traction beam axle. im am also taking the ring and pinion out of this because my 9 inch also came off this f150.

has anyone ever done it this way befor?

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish - if you are using the ford knuckles then certainly all the ford stuff will fit on. But are you trying for Chev or waggy flat tops? In that case, the ford spindle will not work. I tried and asked about it, and found out that the ford spindle will mount the rotor in a different position relative to the caliper mounting on the chevy/waggy knuckle. Really sucks because that would be sweet but as I found out, there is a reason people use the chevy small bearing spindle. I was able to get 1 spindle from a wreck and just had a friend turn down one of my waggy spindles on his lathe to be the same as the chevy small bearing spindle I already had.
what you are trying to do has been tried, and it doesn't work.

I think the main problem he is having is he is trying to use the drum brake knuckles, rather then the disked ones.

did some more research and measurements and found this.

ok so i have the same spindle as in the picture but its off an 82 f150.
they are saying that the chevy caliper bracket is 1/4th inch thick which is the same thickness as the gap in the earlier picture that i took.

"[FONT=Arial, Arial, Helvetica]6) Spindle - Again, that matches the Knuckle. You can use the Ford D44 stub axle, but it is 1/4" shorter (I'll explain why in a second) so you won't be able to install the c-clip on the end of the stub axle, which may mean that the seal where the stub axle enters the back of the knuckle/spindle may not be as good. The Ford stub shaft is shorter because the Ford spindle is shorter because the Ford caliper bracket is a cast part of the knuckle, whereas the Chevy caliper bracket is bolted onto the spindle, and is about a 1/4" thick."

so lets say i do get the chevy brackets and they are indeed 1/4 inch thick and it is just too tight would i be able to grind them down lets say to 1/5th inch thick and bolt them up or would i be able fo make custom caliper brackets. i allready know everything fits at 1/4th c clip and all. would i have any trouble finding internal shafts or would i have to get some custom made.
