Higherground 4x4 went to Moab.

We made the trip up there May 9-17. Not everyone stayed the whole week, but overall it was 2 TJ's, 1 Toyota, and 3 XJ's. Words can't describe Moab, so here are some of my photos. Alan has a bunch of his and other's photos to post later.

Saturday - Fins and Things - Potato Salad Hill
Sunday - Hell's Revenge - Potato Salad Hill
Monday - Moab Rim - Kane Creek Canyon
Tuesday - Long Canyon - Gemini Bridges - Bull Canyon - Gold Bar Rim
Wednesday - Top of the World
Thursday - White Rim Trail (Last 3 photos are from Hurrah Pass/Kane Creek)
Friday - Tower Arch Trail and Dead Horse Point

Hell's Revenge

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

I had such a great time, I have no freakin' idea where to begin... so I figured I'd just write up about the drive, then take it trail by trail.
The HigherGround4x4.com crew took a trip to Moab last week. We actually have a whole Moab section from the trip, being the dorks we are and it's located HERE.
These are just my pictures. I hope Virgil posts his and Chris posts some Video because we had a heck of time.
Moab is so intense. thank you Bob for guilting us all into going. It is truly amazing and I can't wait until the next trip.
I'm going to write and post pics about:
1. the drive up there and the camp site
2. hell's revenge
3. moab rim
4. kane creek
5. poison spider mesa
6. golden spike
7. golden bar rim
8. fun shots
9. the moab ninja
most of the ones with very few pics are because my hands were glued to the wheel driving! What a great time.
the drive up there wasn't bad at all. We had Paul and crew up to Flagstaff and a quick repair on the way up there, then went on up into god forsaken country with poor taco bell service, Bob has issues with his trailer tires, we went through Monument Valley, until finally getting into Moab...
the camp site was awesome. Great call on that one. well shaded, centrally located in town, nice pool, clean showers, priced right. Again, excellent call on the camp ground, guys. Lucy got a lot of play around town. =) People would look at Bob's jeep and go "sweet!", then they'd look at Geoff's jeep and go "holy crap, it's alive!!!!", then they'd look at mine and go "awwww ain't it sweet. look at the dead pig on top!"
anyway, great times guys. great times.

Hell's Revenge was just awesomely cool. Virgil, Bob, Geoff, and I ran this one first and it took most of the day. The Hot Tub was a biotch, the motorcycle dudes almost died, as did the kids that ran in front of my Jeep... but you know, it was KILLER!
CLASSIC MOAB.
(YES, I ran Hell's Gate. Thank you Virgil for the spot in, thank you Bob for the spot out. gotta wait on Virgil or Mike for pics of that... I was busy wheelin', dudes!)

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

Moab Rim was hard. It was the edge of a cliff, technical driving, and tons of fun. Coming down I got a little tippy, wet my pants, freaked out, and was pretty convinced I was going to die. Needless to say, it was the source of many jokes the rest of the week "help me, help me! I'm gonna DIE!!!!"
Seriously, not many pics because I was wheelin... hope Mike got some good ones. Great view from the top. "Steve" enjoyed it.

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

Kane Creek took a while to get to, was fun in it's own right, but would have been better with more water. Personally, I loved it because it reminded me of wheelin' back in Arkansas. The lunch spot was cool. Geoff's beast is awesome. Three distinct parts to the trail... desert "getting there", running the "creek bed" back and forth, then the "mountain ledge" exit strategy.
The unexpected water break and seeing "Waterfall Jesus" was also well worth the trip.

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

Day three on the trails was the big daddy day of wheelin... Poison spider, golden spike, and golden bar.
I have to be honest. Golden Spike was incredible, but I really enjoyed Poison Spider Mesa a LOT. Challenging, but the waterfalls would just PULL you right up them. Varied terrain, etc..
It was very cool to pick up CJ Geoff, Steve, and Jess. Great wheelin with you. Geoff, you are a heck of driver, bro. Jess.. thanks for trusting me and my driving. It was a pleasure to meet you.
I snuck a Moab Ninja pic into this series because it's my favorite...

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

golden spike was great, but the beginning of my yolk issues on the D35.
THANK YOU DR GEOFF. You know you are a stud, but I sincerely appreciate the help.
Mike got all the truly great pics on this one. We were too busy wheelin' and trying not to DIE! The wind was KILLER and all in all, the trail is everything everyone said it would be. Challenging, fun, scenic, beautiful, and did I mention fun?
Bob discovered sand dune racing with horse power.
I rediscovered that duct tape truly can fix anything. no.... I'm not red neck? why do you ask?
The scenes were awesome.
"Steve" died in one of the pics, so pay no attention to what Bob is doing.

Re: Highergrount 4x4 went to Moab.

Golden Bar Rim was funny just because we got to keep saying "Golden Crack" over and over again... the Crack of Goldenness just became a seminal moment. CJGeoff learned the art of trail clutch repair, Chris came into his own as a camera man (this is where he got some cool video from UNDER showboat's rig), final obstacle stuck some folks, etc... we were really tired by this point, but new friendships and root beer carried the day. What a blast.
Oh... and Bob is ONE FLEXY MOTHER! Check him out on the Magnificent Crack of Goldenness.
