Sure, you can use an axle as a tow-point.

Although if a Stupid-dudy would have hooked to the bumper I bet it would have ripped it in two also.

I could be wrong, but I think they attached to the passenger side bumper tow hook? It appears that because of the side pull, and the front passenger tire was buried in some compact mud, the axle stayed in place while the body was pulled. You can see the axle pivot around the passenger tire.

Im pretty sure you are right. After I left the house this morning I got to thinking about it. IF the axle was pulled from under the jeep...it would have came out from under the Jeep, not the other way around.

What morons, and the people standing on the rear while the guy is tugging that hard are just idiots.

Granted, I wasn't there, but why the heck weren't they trying to pull him backwards, instead of that obviously bad angle?

They said in the comments on the vid page that they tried pulling it out from the back and it did not work. they claim it made it worse.
