new RIMS (hammertone RT 18s* w/Pics)

They started as a set of unwanted take-offs from a 08 Charger RT in Vegas.
They found their way to me in Canada where they sat in my basement since
January. All the meatballs that promised to refinish them bailed, so I had to
rethink my plans. We don't have any commercial powdercoaters in my town
(or anywhere close), but I managed to find a guy who builds light aircraft with
his own powdercoat facility. He offered to powdercoat them after I pleaded for
his help. Mind you, he wanted the wheels prepped, and he had a limited color
palette. I had the wheels soda blasted, and powdercoated with a hammertone
finish. It's not exactly the gunmetal finish I wanted, but hammertone is
supposedly indestructible. Plus it's hard to complain about a powdercoat job
that cost $200 (plus the soda blasting).

Anyways, I hope I didn't damage the Jeep brand with this little stunt. What do
you guys think? I'll pop in the centercaps later today.

That looks great. What are you doing for center caps? I know you said you will pop them in, but i hope its not the original uterus ones.

I like it. I know it's the antithesis of Jeeps to some folks, but for a daily driver- hell, I wish mine looked like that.

Those are some shinny lug nuts you have on that, they almost distract from the look of the XJ.

Re: new RIMS (hammertone RT 18s* w/Pics)

alex haha, cut me some slack, I've been on the hunt for some black lug nut caps for a few weeks. I used to have black lug nuts, but they were crappy. They cemented themselves to my 16s, and damn near ruined one of my rims. I switched to McGard Lugnuts so that never happens again.

talyn the factory center caps should fit if I wrap them with a bit of tape. They're already grey, and they're fairly close in size.

Re: new RIMS (hammertone RT 18s* w/Pics)

Doesn't your jeep have HID's and custom side markers?

Is it actually an Orvis edition, or did you just add all the stuff? I know Euro XJ's got those tail lights and such, but i know nothing about Canadian models...

Either way, I really like it; much better than all the "rockstar" and crap wheels you can get that are ridiculously flashy and overpriced...

Mr Random. Yeah, I have the Bi-xenons and HID projector foglights. I'm still waiting on the LED markers to get rewired. Canadian XJs were virtually the same to the US versions; I had all the Orvis stuff slapped on my Jeep this spring. Also, I try to keep an updated list of my mods here:

I've got some soon to be shined up alloy rims that could would go allong with those shinny lug nuts you have. If you want to get rid of them let me know.
I wasn't tryin to bust your balls too hard, just wanted to point that out and thought you were looking for a little constructive criticism.

Re: new RIMS (hammertone RT 18s* w/Pics)

Alex I knew what you were saying. There's a few oddball things that have-been on my list for a while:
- I never liked the chrome lugs, but its a pita to find 21mm lugnut caps. - I'm looking for a set of replacement smoked side markers. - I plan on refinishing my emblems in black.

I dig 'em (along with the style). Kudos on finding a decent looking in-house(mopar) rim, but I still think it looked sweet with the cobras.

Re: new RIMS (hammertone RT 18s* w/Pics)

Thanks for noticing gradon. It would-have been cheaper to go with aftermarket wheels (when you add the soda blasting,
powdercoating, and remounting to these wheels), BUT I desperately wanted to keep things oem, and wanted to stick
with Chrysler. The cobra wheels were nice, but the Jeep drove like garbage with them. The Jeep drives like a charm
with these wheels. I highly recommend Chrysler 300/ Charger/ Magnum take-offs for a dd.

Anyways, I just wrapped the insides of my oem center caps with some electrical tape, and they popped right in.
I think they color-match pretty well considering my oem 16s were gray to begin with. You can really see the difference
between a regular finish and and hammertone finish in this pic.
