feels good to see the american take the win

can't wait to see it lose to the new ZR-1... the video gets kinda redundant... skyline keeps losing..

I'll bet that Z06 wouldn't fare so well if there were any curves involved.

Don't bring logic into this!

but i agree.... although the Z06 DID beat the GTR on the Nuremberg track... would be a GREAT race on a road coarse... on the 1/4 you would need to be a GREAT driver and ditch the runflats to keep up with the GTR off the line, from a roll the z06 kills it.

the big mystery is how hard it is going to be to modify the GTR... nissan made some wierd stuff on this to keep it "factory"... where as the z06 can be modded to all hell..

It'd hold its own in the curves, the GTR is something like 500lbs heavier than the Vette. Where the GTR really wins though is from a standstill, can't beat AWD traction...until you get rolling again...

EDIT: In Car and Driver's comparison of the Z06, Viper ACR, GTR, and 911 GT2, only the Vette and the Viper got above 1g on the skidpad. However they liked the GTR best.
Good news on the ZR1, it beat the GTR's record lap time on the Nurburgring by 3 seconds!

It was the same with their test of the 4cyl Pocklet Rocket cars a few years back. The SRT4 Neon, Supercharged Cobalt SS and Ion Redline pretty much walked all over the the stripper WRX and even more so the RSX in most all of the tests done, yet the slowest of all the cars (the RSX) tested got the win If I was looking for a factory fresh hot street car that might see a little "action", why the hell would I buy the slowest, worst handling of the bunch?

What a joke that was, my 2005 SRT-4 ACR would have smoked them all. The ACR's handling is great, a regular SRT-4 can't even stay cloes in the twistys.

A 25mph corner could be done at speed up to 85mph with the exit speed even higher. The 165mph SRT-4was a blast it also made 298HP and 375# of torque with the stock turbo. No lag and a stock front Quaife limited slip was great. It was great at Road America.

I sold it last year and wish I didn't. There were under 200 black SRT-4 ACR's built.

I would have lost my licence with it. I just loved how it pulled with 36psi of boost.

Are you kidding me? Have you SEEN the z06 lap the ring?

(on a side note, the ZR1 absolutely DESTROYED the lap record at the ring)

There's also a lot of controversy over the way the GTR timed its ring time, and whether it was on street tires, race tune, etc.

Re: C6 Z06 Vs NEW skyline GT-R...... street race

They tested the GTR, ZO6, and 911 (I think it was the Turbo, but they got so many versions its hard to keep track) in one of the magazines. They had a pro driver if I recall correctly and he loved all three but said the Vette is harder to go fast in because its rear wheel drive, but when driven correctly its amazing. The 911 was fastest off the line but slowest around the track. The GTR was 2nd off the line (behind 911) but fastest on the track. He was amazed by it as well because when its goin, it seems to lose weight and shrink in size. The Vette I believe had the best quarter mile. He said once it hooked up, it's light weight and monster V8 torque just reeled the others in and blew by em by the end of the quarter. The ZR1 oughtta be awesome, with 120hp above the Z06 and adaptive shocks? Sign me up. I think Chevy is still predicting the Z06 to be the favorite track day Corvette though.

I watched the latest two Top Gears w/ the GTR in it. Stig drove it to tie with the Ferrari Scuderia as the 7th fastest car around their power lap track @ 1.19.7. Stig did it in 1.22.4 in the z06--18th on the list. http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/powerlaps.shtml

You know... "the stig" isn't the end all of driving tests lol. Ironically, the stig is well known to be 3 different drivers, depending on who's available to sail a car around a track. And he drives that track to make the car look good, not to see who can get the fastest time. Other drivers have lapped the top gear track faster than the stig ever did.

As for the GTR vs. Z06 debate. Both cars are good performers. From a drivers standpoint I'd rather have the Z06, more driving input, equalling more control. Ever since the last generation the GTR has been a computer car, the R34 was IMPOSSIBLE to drive if you knew what you were doing, however the average joe shmoe could go in and do relatively well, because that car WOULD NOT let you screw up.

We'll have to wait till the GTR starts running le mans, and other circuits, to see how it's really going to do.

And as far as the lap times it's turning, I'll believe it when I see it do it in factory trim.

References please. Only other drivers I've seen get within striking distance of Stiglet are F1 drivers.

As for the Viper, every time I've seen one on the track they look like a real tail happy mofo - not just under power but braking as well. Makes my early AP1 S2000 feel like a FWD car, and that's saying something.

I like Vettes. Just wish they weren't so "nasty" from a materials point of view (Again, coming from a S2k guy that's saying something). That said, I haven't sat in a C6 yet. If it is anything like the rest of the improvements in GMs lately it'll be lacking I'm sure. As a mostly GM fanboi when it comes to 'Merkan tanks it makes me cry. They could be so good if they'd spend a little more (say $4.37) per car produced on the line.

911s? I'm done with them. I'm not even a fan of the newer stuff. I'd take a Cayman over the 911 any day despite being labelled as someone with "not enough money" because of it. LOL Bt/dt - rear engine is dumb. About the only good thing about it is that it acts as a crumple zone as you go through the armco.

All three of those cars are beasts in their own right. Given Nissans track record with those Skyline's I would own one in a heartbeat. I would have to take the Porsche myself for the simpple fact that its german. The ZR-1 is friggin beautiful. I bet its hard to handle too.

Just gotta get past the learning curve is all...The Viper is an amazing track car...in the right hands. Which means, not mine. At least not until I've had time to practice and build up it considering that the most powerful vehicle I've ever owned is my XJ...

Re: C6 Z06 Vs NEW skyline GT-R...... street race

i would also take the skyline over the rest in a second!... it truly is an amazing car.

BUT i would be afraid as all hell to own once since it looks far too complicated to work on... although, if you have the $$$ for the car, you probably dont work on it yourself.
