USMC plans to take over Major Portions of Johnson Valley

I came across this today and was wondering if anyone had anymore info. I am trying to get a copy of the flier with maps this guy is talking about. I know alot of you love to wheel in Johnson Valley so I thought I would post it here instead of the land use forum. I am not real sure if the potential takeover affects our offroad spots or not but I will post more info if I come across it.

AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, I WAS IN WASHINGTON DC THIS WEEK WITH ED WALDHEIN. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT WE TALKED ABOUT WAS THE JOHNSON VALLEY (LUCERNE VALLEY) AND THE 29 PALMS MARINE BASE TAKE OVER AND IT DOES NOT LOOK GOOD FOR US. I WAS IN THE OUTER OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN DUNCAN HUNTER, RANKING MEMBER OF THE ARMED SERVICES COMMITY, WHILE HE WAS IN A MEETING WITH THE COMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORE. THE COMANDANT CAME OUT AFTER THE MEETING, I GOT UP TO GREET HIM, AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE TAKE OVER AND HE SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE FAIR.

WHEN WE GOT INTO THE CONGRESSMAN OFFICE WE HAD A GOOD TALK ABOUT IT, THE CONGRESSMAN WANTS TO HAVE A TOWN HALL MEETING WITH ALL THE OFF-ROADERS TO TALK ABOUT IT. HE SAID THE MEETING WILL BE IN ABOUT 3 WEEK AND WILL BE AT A SCHOOL IN THE SAN DIEGO AREA, WE NEED ALL OF YOU WHO CAN MAKE IT TO BE THERE, IT WILL BE ON A WEEK DAY. I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN AND WERE AS SOON AS I KNOW.

I HAVE A 12 PAGE FLYER WITH MAPS ON WHAT THE MARINES WANTS TO DO, THEY ARE GOING EAST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF 29 PALMS, WRAPING AROUND THE WILDERNESS ARES AND WEST TO CAMP ROCK.

IF YOU WANT TO SAVE OUR RIDING AREAS YOU MUST ATTEND!

Hello Folks
I personally got involved with this a few weeks ago.

Dick C (d37) and I met with the private company that is doing the survey on Military "Encroachment"

They asked many questions about usage and the $$ figures that could be impacted
if 29 palms marine base encroached into Johnson Valley

They took many pages of notes.

At this time, it is still in the "Study" phase

Our best course of action at the moment is Use Johnson Valley as much as we can
Hold Races, Rock crawling, Birthdays, Weddings...Whatever ....to boost the usage numbers
as they do the survey and take count as to how many use the area.

We currently have the ear of the military and governing agencies..and they are listening.

If you feel the need to write letters, please do so in a professional manor. If we let
anger author our intentions, we will be left out of the process.

This is a whole new ball game. We may even need to get on board with the anti
access community with. The 1000s of displaced OHVers, We will end up some were in
California, we will not just go away.

Hopefully if we are victemized by Encroachment, we will be compensated elseware

Thanks
Wayne Nosala

Re: USMC plans to take over Major Portions of Johnson Valley

The bottom line on this is going to be GET INVOLVED!! If the USMC is willing to listen to us then we have a chance of preserving our off roading area. Like was mentioned above, let's behave like responsible adults in this and not simply lash out. Well thought out comments will be much more effective than rants about the subject.

I understand that some crap posted in forums is heresay, that is why I asked if anyone had anymore info or has heard anything about this. My understanding is it is still in the "preliminary" stages.

If anyone has a myspace page, this lady has the document to review. I have seen the map but it was not very clear the one I seen.

This is what she wrote:

You can now see the document on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/scarey_sheri Go to my pics and its under the Land Issues photo album

Re: USMC plans to take over Major Portions of Johnson Valley

Makes you wonder...29 Palms is the largest base in the Marine Corps, land area wise. It's absolutely gigantic. It takes 45 minutes or more to drive from one end of Pendleton to the other on the 10. 29 Palms is much larger. You just never know it cuz most of it is empty desert for blowin stuff up...why not keep blowing that area up??

Re: USMC plans to take over Major Portions of Johnson Valley

First pic looks like an acceptable compromise. The area of interest is Not. We will have to be vocal about this to prevent JV from becoming a mere shadow of it's former self.
