Re: Any body here have a brain tumor?

Real sorry to hear that man - god bless. Not the greatest time of year for it - not that any time of year is good. One of my best girlfriends found out she had one a couple of years ago - discovered by accident and it was removed and she's been fine since. Hope that is the case with your little one. Will say a prayer for you - be strong.

As a parent I can imagin the feelings your going through. Keep up hope, medicine isn't what it used to be and there are so many more things we can do now that we never dreamed of before.
We'll keep you in our prayers and hearts and keep us posted.

Re: Any body here have a brain tumor?

When I was growing up a kid next door had a brain tumor in the worst possible spot (right at the brain stem) inoperable. He went through kemo and radiation and has been in remition for about 10 years now. I'm really sorry to hear that about your son and I'm definitely praying for you and family. Please keep us posted.

Re: Any body here have a brain tumor?

My mother in law had brain surgery and was not a big ordeal and she was fine. I also worked with a guy that used to work on brain maping GPS like device. He said the outcomes are great today because they can go right to the spot and remove it without hurting anything else. How did they know to look at a brain scan for a tumor? Im glad they found it so young because kids bounce back from that kind of stuff well. God bless.

Re: Any body here have a brain tumor?

Have they told you what sort? A few years ago, my mum was found to have one - it was a "calcified meningioma." Benign tumour, non-invasive to the brain, but it was large enough that it had shifted the midline.

Took about six hours to remove tho - while it wasn't invasive, the location (left parietal, I think) made it a bit difficult to deal with. The neuro told me after it was done that it was a "technically difficult" operation.

I've not had a tumour personally - just a subdural hematoma caused by massive blunt trauma - but if they're catching it while it's still small and they can get to it quickly, odds are good. If it's a benign tumour, odds have just shifted to exceptional.

(A meningioma is a wild growth of the meninges - the covering of the brain proper - and it being calcified shows that it had been there for a good long while, and finally got caught due to the increased pressure caused by the calcification of the tumour. They run about 80% benign cases, and physiological effects are caused more by increased intracranial pressure than effects of the tumour directly. Google for more info.

(Once you find out what sort of tumour you're dealing with, a trip to Wiki or WebMD may prove fruitful - I've backchecked a good deal of information on Wiki. While I'd not consider it an "authoritative" source, it is mercifully free of apocrypha and makes a good jumping-off point for further research.

(Just bear in mind that medicine does not have all the answers! Especially in cases of surgery or trauma, a great deal also depends on the individual patient. I've been through a great deal - I've actually been asked "Why aren't you dead?" by enough medical people that it honestly doesn't bother me anymore...)

Remember what I just said - much depends on the patient! So, build up the patient to help with recovery.

Re: Any body here have a brain tumor?

My son will turn three on saturday. Cherish every moment that you have with your child. Always always always let them know how much you love them and how important they are to you. My children are my life. Dont let the helplessness feeling get you down, allow it to motivate you.
You have my thoughts and prayers.
