Looking for a affordable code reader for my 95 cherokee

1995 obd1 4.0 my dash to the left is out and i am trying to find a good code reader that will work with the under the hood port. I looked all last night and no one has anything for the 90s cherokees. I dont want to spend a crazy amount on a drb3/2. Anyone had any first hand experience with one that works? Maybe with data logging.. probably no data logging with obd1 (use to my obd2 mustangs fancyness lol) we ARE talking Jeeps here... But atleast a code reader.

Or one that does obd1 and 2 with data logging?

Atleast one that does simple obd1codes (jeep compatible)

Re: Looking for a affordable code reader for my 95 cherokee

I remember way back when we used to do the paper clip trick. It would make the check engine flash. It would be like it would flash 3 times, then 7 times, then back to 3, then 7. again and again indicating a code 37. Thing was that this was before the internet so you need the book to know what a code 37 was. Does that trick still work?

try to find a Snap-on"Brick" 2500 IIRC with all the adapters and cartridges ,
Should be cheap as they are about 4 generations removed from current scan tools

I will second the Snap On MT2500. Ebay should have them.

They were premium stuff in their day, but they are pretty obsolete now.

Cycling the key three times from off to run should also pull codes, iirc.

This. I think Innova also had a code reader that had obd1 adapters. It was around $200 last I saw.

Cant cycle the key and read the blinks, since that section of dash is burnt up. Tried fixing it a few times. But no bueno

Actron ScanTool CP9110. Be sure that it comes with the CP9113 cartridge for
1989-1995 Chrysler Systems, as well as all of the necessary cables and manual.
You might find one on eBay.

I use my actron cp9185. Slow refresh rate but it pulls codes and reads live data.
