Center console fitment

I'm looking at a automatic '96 2-door XJ and the center console is a little beat up. Will a console out of a newer, say a '98 with the cup holders swap over easily?

Thanks

Re: Center console fitment

Yes, but you will have a gap up under the dash. Perfect place to fit a slim cb .

Yes, grab the mount to the trans tunnel. Self-tappers will work just fine. Grab the heater duct also. Ebrake will take some doing, I haven't done mine yet, 2 years later...

Re: Center console fitment

I swapped a late model console in my renix XJ. All I did was bend the factory park brake lever over enough to to completely disengage it. I do have a late model lever to use, but haven't got around to it, since my park brake is no longer hooked up.
I will do that all again when I finish rear disc swap.
I also still have factory 4WD shifter in place.
I did install late model trans shift lever, which is plug n pray.
