Rubicon Trail

This is on my list of things to do before I even consider having a bucket list. Unfortunately all my buckets are being used to build sand castles with the kids for the next couple of years.

I'll be towing my xj down there Thursday night and I want to start the trail Friday morning. Drive to buck island lake and camp out. Finish the trail Saturday. So far we have 4 xj's with lifts between 3.5" and 7" with tires ranging from 31"-35's. Some guys are locked up front and rear and others are open diff. Two cj's. One with just a lift and 33's and the other one is on 35's locked up.

I will consider it. Never done Rubicon. I do have contacts in the area tha may also be interested. If you can give particulars on tow vehicle parking ect.. it will help plan and decide.

Parking at the Loon Lake trailhead is easy and rarely has any issues at all. On busy weekends it can get full, but it's not bad at all. I wouldn't hesitate to park a tow rig and trailer there.

I'll throw my two sense in.

If you are exiting the Tahoe side, either park at the exit of the trail on the Tahoe side, or you can part in Tahoe at one of the campgrounds for a few bucks a day. That way you can load up and head home without having to drive a good ways to your tow rig.

^^^^
this is basically what I do except park the rig at one of the casinos (for free).

Hey Parker/Spencer. Whats the distance from the end of the trail to the start if I was to park the van at the exit and drive the rig to the trail head? (Approx.)

How have you been Nelson? The drive frome end to the trail head is maybe 30 ish miles but takes an hour or so because its a narrow windy two lane road. Your jeep should have no problems. Give me a call sometime and i can give you more info and catch up.

I'm good! Just super busy! I finished the ORI front strut set up. Quite happy with it. I need to get it out before I head up any where. I plan on hitting the Hammers for the race so I may tow it and give it hell on Sat.! I've been wanting to hit Rubicon way back since they closed Surprise Canyon to Panamint city so that tells you how long. It's just really nail bitting to travel so far when we have good stuff here.

Can you fill up near the trail entry?

Yes there's a chevron with a deli right near the beginning of ice house road. Make sure you guys are topped off beforehand!

I'll try and make it but will know more when it gets closer!

If you plan to go in with 31s and open diffs it's doable.. but difficult. Just be prepared to move off and let people pass as well as have good recovery points. idk about making it in two days if you don't have at least 33s and one locker.

If starting friday, would this be two days or three days on the trail.

Alot of people start at loon, just go into buck, and back out to loon. That is easily done in two days. Last time i went we made buck in 4 hours. But i was a solo rig.

I would deffinately be interested in meeting up with yall up here.

I don't know if this is original to you, but I am stealing it. That is a great analogy.

Thank you.

Totally interested, still getting the Rig ready but will keep tabs on this thread!
