Dumb question about faded (or not to be exact) paint

So I'm yanking the emblems of my xj (4x4, Jeep, Cherokee, Sport) and did the front jeep today because it removed quite easily with some cheap fishing string I had lying around (ill need some stronger string to get the others off) and noticed that even after a good cleaning I could still see "Jeep" in the paint. Which is fine cuz I painted it black and the phantom letters worked great for replacement BUT I intend on not putting the side "Cherokee sport" back on... Will the phantom letters fade to an equal grey quickly or will it remain visible FOREVER! Also, I'm using some dbl sided automotive trim tape I have left over. Anything work better that I wouldn't have to cut up into perfect little pieces?

Have you tried buffing/waxing it?

After buffing it will go away. But may show up later as they fade differently. Good job using fishing line.
