i searched but couldnt find anything has anyone put a newer 97+ gas tank in a 96- cherokee i have a 91 an the gas tank has rotted out i was wondering with all my rust issues if i could use the plastic tank

anyone? i too just sprung a leak in my 88 and i replaced the tank with a junk yard tank. would like to know if the newer ones fit? plastic doesn't rot.

I'd like to know as well.

I drive a 1995 diesel and have a 1998 breaker on th edrive - but cannot afford for it not to fit as it is our only car.

'Don't know about the factory, but try looking after-market. There are plastic retrofit tanks for the Cj and YJ, it wouldn't surprise if there is a plastic early XJ tank also. Try 4WD Hardware or Quadratec.
