NP 231

where can I find a remanufactured NP 231 trasfercase for my 92 jeep Cherokee xj?

does anyone rebuild these with stronger internals and lower gears?

The only option for lower gears is the TeraLow 4:1, but it was a poor design and not worth the cost. You can buy a whole beefed up case from JB Conversions. But you could by a used 231 and do the same upgrades for about 1/3 the price. For the cost of a new HD 231 from JB you could almost do a 4:1 TJ Rubicon Rock-Trac.

What exactly is wrong with yours? They're pretty easy to rebuild. Unless you've scattered the case, if you can swap one out you can rebuild one.

There's nothing in there about lower gearing, but there is some info on upgrading to a 1.25 width chain, and converting to a 6-pinion planetary gear (all of which I've decided to do.)

Also, I have the Factory service manual section on rebuilding the transfer case. It's in PDF format. If you are interested, shoot me a PM, and I'll send it to you.
