Its a box that goes where everyone puts their 'subs' in the back hatch area. Its made to fit there, has the bump for the wheel well, and a hole in the back to utilize the little cubby hole thats already there.
 
Sorry, I was under the impression alot of folks knew what it is by name.

Early XJs had the option of having the cargo box. As far as I know theyre pretty darn rare to find. I guess thats why you may not have seen it before.
