What purpose does the second CTS serve? I am referring to the small CTS at the back of a 2.5 head, behind the plastic harness tray for the injector wiring.

I'm unfamiliar with the 2.5, but on my 1988 4.0 the small temp sensor at the rear of the head drives the dash temp gauge. I imagine it's the same with yours.

Thanks for the responses, had some issues with wiring harnesses, yes, more than one. The coolant temp sensor seems to have disappeared in the original harness after removal, and does not appear to be present in the replacement. ??? The coolant temp gauge worked with the original harness so, I know it has to be there......somewhere. If found, I will try to wire it in the replacement harness.
