Running in limp home mode? Does it hurt?

I have been running in limp home mode for about 3 months now...I drive the Jeep maybe on the weekends, but nothing more than that. First off, does this hurt the Jeep at all? I had a problem with code 45 that came up and from what I can tell, it's the overdrive solenoid or one of the solenoids slipping or not working. Haven't had time to look or take it in yet to get it checked.

What exactly do you mean by "limp home mode"?

I have a 97 XJ 4.0 automatic and it's when you pull the plug on the TCM under the dash which stops the auto and makes it a manual, so all you can use is 1st, 3rd, and 4th.
