Brake line help please

So, I’ve managed to snap both rear brake lines and so I’m looking to replace
them.

I bought some very flexible ones at the auto parts store but, they don’t have the protective spring around them and are too long.

Do they need that protective spring? I believe they do.

I may see it they loanone of those flaring tools.

Spring is a factory thing. Be OK without it. "Bought some very flexible ones?" Huh? Thinking all XJ's will use 3/16". I prefer the copper/nickel alloy. If I were doing this, which I did when I did a complete rear brake job on my '00, replace the long line from the proportioning valve (bet that looks like crap), and the rubber hose on the diff that the two lines come out of.

The sping (rock guard) is not necessary but does add some protection. If you picked up the copper nickel alloy brake line can be double flared using a HF flare tool. The HR flare tool has a hard time with stainless.
