start it idle jumps to 1800 rpm , after 10 seconds drops to 1500 and stays there ? 98, 4.0 , auto, 140 k miles, stock motor, any ideas ? thx

Sticky IAC.

If the idle changes, it most likely is not a sticky IAC, but the inability of the IAC to adjust enough to compensate for a vacuum leak. Check for vacuum leaks. Clean the IAC/throttle body.

Clean the throttle body and Idle Air Controller. If the high idle is consistent day to day, look for a vacuum leak. If the high idle comes and goes on different days, or goes away after a re-start, consider buying a new IAC.

well, tps & iac are both replaced, t body has been removed & cleaned, sprayed everywhere w/ carb cleaner idle stays the same so cant find a vacuum leak . still idles at about 1800. anymore ideas anyone ? before i take it to a shop. thx btw what is the other device on drivers side of tb w/ wiring & plugged in ?

check the brake booster and the vacuum line that runs to the vacuum tank.

did thes just happen one day or did it slowly get worse?
