planning on installing a Spartan in the Dana 30...how do I tell if its a high pinion...and where do I count the splines, on the end of the axle or on the yoke?

Thanks - ken

Splines are counted on the end of the axle shafts, where they go into the carrier itself.

For low vs high, look at the pumpkin as it points to the rear of the chassis and its relationship to the axle tubes. Is the yoke lower than the centerline of the axle tubes or higher than the centerline of the axle tubes? (Note: if the axle is rotated for a large lift try to imagine it without that rotation. Ideally you should be looking at it with the pinion gear in a horizontal plane.)

Do you know what year the axle is and what vehicle it came from?

It doesn't make any difference on a D30, they all use the same locker!
