This may have been covered, but I cant find it.
Previous owner of my 98 XJ. used DEX-Cool in it+ green anti-freeze.....This resulted in a brown mud in the lower radiator hose, radiator fill neck and heater core.
I have flushed, with Super Flush, vinegar, even set up a system with my sump pump to run cleaner thru just the heater core......No Joy...still have floating brown stuff in any coolant I drain. Just drained it 3 times in 2 weeks doing
water pump& hoses.
So now looking to put a filter in system.....It may help.
Need advice from someone who has a set up installed.
Thanks,
Wayne

I don't think you're going to find that in anything that uses a screw on canister filter, which is the way to go.

The wix 24070 filter they show that fits that base has a restrictor in it that is about a 3/16 hole. I would tee it between the 2 heater hoses and not run one inline. We install these at work on diesel trucks all the time.

What we use in the heavy equipment field is Cascade dishwasher detergent. Cleans em out real good after head gasket failures or lack of maintenance.

I've also ran a Gano filter, which goes inline with the radiator hose. It uses a basic screen for a filter, but did trap quite a bit of sediment. One of their models offers a clear housing, so you can see what's going on with the water flow, air bubbles, etc. It was fairly handy.

IIRC talyn or one of those other wring coast guys did a coolant filter install.

There are two write-ups on here that I plan on duplicating this summer, along with redoing the entire cooling system. I plan on plumbing the filter in "passively," meaning I will T off the heater return line, through the filter, then back to it. I may also plumb back in before the radiator inlet.

I bought the Wix 24019 coolant head kit, two Baldwin B5134 filters for $20, and these ball valves:

Just need two brass fittings and some hose. The coolant inlet/outlet is 3/8". I believe the heater hose is 5/8".

Sounds like something is still dirty in there. Maybe try backflushing your heatercore real well and running another flush kit. Run some 50/50 Ethylene glycol antifreeze and distilled water. It should clean up after a couple filter changes and coolant flushes.
