Found this on Craigslist and the guy says he has no idea what year it came off of. Can you I'd it based on the numbers? I'm buying this for my 2001 4x4. Just making sure it fits.

If you had the entire BOM# you could tell, other wise getting a HP is the least of your concerns, I've been on my LP for 17yrs now at 5.5"!

It has 85 stamped in it, and http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/deabill.aspx shows at least the first part of the BOM you can see as an 85-87 model. So yes, HP 3.55 gears, and I think smaller u-joints than your 99. It's also 32 years old and likely rusty inside.

Pass...

Is the hp30 all hype? Thought it was a tad stronger as well as a big help with driveline angles?

It is and can, the point is "is it worth it" to change out a good axle just cause you might do damage? But I've done 17yrs of hard rock crawling with 0 issues, you decide where to spend your money?

Is a non-disco axle, so possibly renix era from a np242 equipped vehicle. Otherwise would be at least HO era.
You could swap your current knuckles, brakes, axle shafts, and bolt it right in
