12v electric WINCH INFO

Re: http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/helpme.gif12v electric WINCH INFO

better go bigger than either , 4500 lb. would be a min. should always rate a winch at least double your vehicle weight , unless you enjoy doing double line pulls

well... since a stock XJ weighs in between 3000 and 3500lbs you need at least a 7000# winch.

Re: http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/helpme.gif12v electric WINCH INFO

go w/ a minimum of a 8000# winch if you plan on ever getting stuck.......

This! Its not only the weight of the vehicle but the added force to yank you out of or over an obstacle. Don't worry about a sinch until you can wheel it nearly stock. Then add it to the list.

my theroy on winches is this...if you buy a cheap winch, you have in essence saved enough money to buy a cheap cooler and stock it with beer. That is a good thing because you will need to strap that cooler to the said cheap winch so when it fails you, and it will fail you, you at least can be stranded with cold beer rather then stranded w/o cold beer...which sucks.

the better question is why do you keep posting technical questions in the chapter forum?

Take these questions to one of the technical forums.
This forum is for chapter business.

You've been asked politely to use the tech forums. Lose the attitude. You've just burned your grace period.

2000# winches are for atv's
5 to 7000# are for trailers
8000# are for vehicles

Good info in this thread for new folks.

thanks macgyvr some other people dont think so

Let me tell you something, you will make it a lot further here without the attitude. There is a ton of information to the learned. and a lot of friends 2 be made, but I can assure you that with a "f you" attitude towards one of the many respected members your time here will be short lived.

Try starting over, learn what there is to be learned and make some friends, don't piss on fires that may be useful some day.

the occasional tech thread I can understand, but there were three in the last two days, all with questions that could be easily answered with a simple search of one of the tech forums.

Perhaps I just had sand in my vajay-jay the other day. I should have been more polite.
