magnetic rear license plate holder...option for swing aways

has anyone done this, thought about it, or know anyone who has done it? right now, i have my license plate mounted to the arm of my c4x4 swing away, but really want it on the hatch itself. i just didn't want to drill new holes in it. so the idea of magnets came into my head.

i did a little searching and found these links:

anyone have any thoughts on this? i know i'll still need to drill a hole or just have a wire out for my light, but this seems like a pretty good option. i just don't know how strong it will be...that's why i also searched for other magnets, so i was thinking of ordering some stronger ones. or just using double sided automotive tape...bottum line is i don't want it coming off easily or having someone just grab it. maybe i could also tape or glue some bolt heads on there so it looks like it's drilled/screwed in.

just an idea...any opinions?

I built a swing away and I have relocated the license plate to the swing away. The only problem you may have with the license plate magnets is with the police. As far as I know (at least in Ohio), the license plate must be illuminated at night. So if you use the magnets, you still have to illuminate the plate.

yeah, i thought i mentioned above that i will still have to drill a hole for the wire of the light. i don't mind drilling one, i just don't want to drill 5 holes (4 for the plate).

i bought a license plate light from discount auto parts and was going to mount and wire it to the swing away, but i'd rather it on the hatch so it's higher up and not 'ghetto rigged.'

A license plate is not a good thing to get lost/stolen so easily

edit: why don't you just drill two holes on the horizontal arm, and just put the two bottom screws in the plate. Then, drill another hole for a light on a bracket that points toward it?
