So I broke an upper shock bolt....

I know this has been covered dozens of times, and I did a couple searches, but I still have some questions. I have a drill rented unitll tomorrow, so I was thining drilling out hte old bolt with a 3/8, is that right? Then I need a 3/8 tap to rethread it, then just buy a bolt that will fit and screw it in. Am i better of just drilling and fishing a bolt thorugh it and using it with a nut, or will tapping be strong enough. How much does the tap I need usually cost?

Drilling and tapping will usually work, sometimes the weld nut will break off. I found it easier to drop a bolt down from the top than to try to get a nut onto a bolt up in that pocket.

just stick a punch in there, hit with big bad hammer, not weld will pop off. Then tape in a nut into long wrench. very easy fix, but everyone makes it SO hard.
