Re: 88 xj front tire rubbing

When the shock is at full extension the ****ing spring about falls out and leans out against the tire.

What a cluster.

Re: 88 xj front tire rubbing

That’s an interesting setup.

What’s your budget look like?

If it were me I’d add something like an ACOS at this point to replace that.

No, you need new longer springs and NEW shocks.

And ACOS if you want it.

WTF?

Re: 88 xj front tire rubbing

You probably should start with either fixing your top coil spring mount and getting the correct length spring or going with an acos and getting the correct spring.

You whole repair at this point is centered around the bump stop and coil spring. After that's fixed then you can figure out what length shock you will need.

Looks like one rod is leaning forward, what would be the best way to get it straight again, beating it?

The bump stop towers are pretty weak, only thin sheet metal. Once you add a bump stop elsewhere the tower is only there to keep the spring from getting away and won't need to be perfectly straight. It looks like you have a great starting point for your rig. tires, rims and no rust. Now would be a good time to think about frame plating so when you weld good parts on, they stay on!

You could also cut your towers off and weld some on from the boneyard.
