Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

We have raced two King of the Hammers races as Team in my XJ based rock buggy. We finished both races with one top 10, coming in 7th. For the last two years many of us from our Team group have worked with GenRight or Dustin Webster and the Red Bull TJ. During that time Matt Adair has put together the Petty Cash Racing team racing a 2wd XJ in the 24 Hours of Lemons series, and we've had quite a bit of success, the car has one class win and two class 2nd places, plus a couple of top 5 overall finishes.

When the new Ultra4 (KOH) stock class was announced for next season, and since we've been racing XJ's, it was a natural for us to think about racing an XJ in this class. So, we've partnered Team with Petty Cash Racing and entered. The car is currently being built at my shop in Bakersfield, G&G Off Road. Matt (IXNAXJ) is working on sponsorships, Cal has been buying parts, and Russ has provided the car and is freshening up a motor for it. James, Kenyon, and others have been in the shop regularly working on the build.

Unfinished engine cage, and front bumper. We decided we wanted to tie everything together, so screw the bolts, the bumper is welded on.

At 1st I thought WTF?!?!?!
He actually cut through the roof & built it on top & then thought about for a sec & thought what a great idea!
Allows for complete around welds & gives you a light bar & a roof rack all at the same time.

Maybe more common than I know?
But 1st time I've seen it.

Its actually done to allow headroom in the car.

Ultra4 rules require 3" of space above your helmet, and the cage would not allow it. This way we have more room.

As a side benefit, when we barrel roll the car, there is less damage.

The odds of you guys rolling over seems very slim, but I guess you have to plan for everything.

The external halo isn't particularly common but not uncommon either. A really good way to do a halo in the cramped space an XJ provides.
