Front fender trim opinions

Hey guys. I'm thinking of trimming the fender from the wheel well to the bumper. Sawzall or dremel? I want clean lines, and to keep the fender flares. Should I follow the front grill line to the wheel well? Also, what does everybody treat the exposed metal with to inhibit rust?

I used a cut-off wheel for mine.

I didn't keep my flares though - I ditched them when I trimmed.

I used a piece of tape for a line and sawzalled it.
I trimmed it long and kept cutting until I found the length I liked which ended up just a little bit below the sides of the bumpers.

I used an angle grinder and cut-off wheel, which worked fine. And I painted the edges with Rustoleum primer to prevent rust.
