hey everybody, newbie here. Hope my question isnt too stupid. Do you think it is fair for someone to want more for their vehicle just because it has a lift or a fancy radio? i understand a fully custom rig having a different price, but i feel that putting aftermarket accessories on a vehicle doesnt justify going way over kbb or nada value. am i wrong?

i agree with that. i think esp when it comes to lift that its been slightly abused at least. some might disagree with that but oh well. it does add to the price i think but not that much.

A truck's worth whatever he can get somebody to pay for it.

If you won't, but someone else will, it's still worth it.

So don't. :D

Offer him KBB, and if he turns it down, walk away.

If he can get another two grand from someone else, then the truck was in fact worth that much.

If he can't, then eventually he'll reconsider your offer.

The fact that they own the vehicle gives them the right to ask whatever they want for it. Although some people can be a little unrealistic about the value of thier vehicle, Your not being forced to buy from them. Negociate with them or move on to the next. The lift kit, high performance parts, etc. might not appeal to you, but for the right person who is planning on doing this to the vehicle anyways, it could be worth it.

I was taught a long time ago. It is only worth what you are willin to pay. Offer them your price, if they don't like it, walk. Next time you see them, if they still have it, offer them less. With a vehical, I try to remember, if the bank will only lend so much on it, is it worth any more than that? If I get bound up, can I get more than the bank will loan? I probably have close to 6k$ in my xj, but honestly, it's worth about 3k, that's just the facts, the bank will probably go 2, so, to me it's a 2k ride. IF you want it and can afford it, it's worth what you're willin to pay, just keep in mind, what it's worth when ya get in a financial bind.

It's only fair if you're a Democrat.

Everybody's comments on here are correct. Finding the right jeep at the right price requires alot of patience. Earlier this year I was shopping for a new XJ and, just like you, I was amazed how may people were asking $3000 for a 20 year old jeep with 200K+ miles just because it had a small lift and 31's. I finally found a good one with a
2 1/2" lift for $1200. The one I had before this had a 3 1/2" lift and was $1000. Just keep looking.

It's also regional, a TJ that sells in NJ for $4K is suddenly worth $6K in Pa, wft. I was looking at a 99 Sahara locally, $11,000 bucks, yea, good shape but not to the tune of $11K, found a few in NJ for $6-$8K. It's just a PIA for me to setup a time to 1 hour drive down to the garden state to look it over then buy it and get it home.

It depends on the parts, the condition, etc. If he's got a 2" BB on it with 30s or 31s and is asking $2000 over KBB, he's an idiot. A BB is $100-200, tires are $160 each. If it's got coilovers and caged with bigger axles, SYE, etc, maybe it's worth the extra $2k.

Of course it's fair. It's his truck. He's free to ask any price he wants. He may not get that price, but that's not the point.
