View Full Version : I just popped my tonsil like a zit.... (warning: KINDA DISGUSTING)

Since I can remember I have gotten a little white speck on the back of my throat every few months. I mostly ignored it and it would go away on its own, and occasionally I would pick it off of there, sometimes it would be mushy and sometimes hard....... and it would always stink like hell.

Last night I noticed this and I decided to pick it off, this time mushy....well I picked that one off, and it returned immediately with another. and I noticed the right tonsil (which I didnt know THAT was what my tonsil was until last night) was swollen, and realized......this MUST be what tonsillitis is.

To the best of my ability, I reached back there and popped that little swollen sucker......a whole bunch of those little mushy bits came out and they reeked ... alot.

I googled around and got this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsillitis

EXACTLY what I have, same white specks that were sometimes a "stone"......I thought all this crap was redonkulous. SOOOOOO I am going to the doctor at 23 years of age to see about this tonsil zit in the back of my throat. Wouldnt normally go, but this has been going on all my life really, and I just discovered it shouldnt be. Its not a huge deal but I don't like the symptoms of a sore throat, bad breath, and possibly linked to me sawing logs all night rather than sleeping in peace.

Evidently the tonsil is has a bunch of holes in it that can get infected and this ONE crypt keeps getting full, so maybe Doc can do something for me. It gets infected and fills up with little kernals of pus rather than goo.

I know all this is really nasty to look at and think about, but I posted also to inform the others out there that may get these from time to time so you know what you are dealing with cause I had NO idea this was tonsillitis at all....really I just thought it was a peice of food that had clung to my throat when really it was a hole in my tonsil overslowing with pus kernals.

BTW: my throat had one SMALLISH dot on the back like the wiskipedia picture, not a dozen huge puppies like that poor soul.

So weird, I too used to get them little kernals, and stink they did! I used to eat porridge every morning, well my mom made us, I thought it was porridge getting stuck in there, and they'd come out in the morning. haha, well havent had them in many years now.

They're harmless. It isn't an indicator of tonsilitis, necessarily. They are called tonsiloliths.

Oh yeah, those are throat potatoes for sure. You plant a little seed, then it grows bigger until they get harvested. Probably not as good "au gratin" though.

For you young'uns out there still looking for a life mate...

Make sure you ask your future partner if they have had there tonsils out (they should say yes to be worth pursuing).

You can thank me later after you figure out why this is important.

I had mine out when I was around 10. All I can remember is lots of ice cream and this young nurse had what I thought at the time, was the best set of breast I had ever seen.

Try it. Worked well for me. Not cheapest stuff around, but it does work.

I had mine removed at about age 8. It still seems to be a fairly common procedure, that might just be the thing for you.

They used to remove tonsils at the slightest indication that there was infection or whatever. This was before the medical community figured out that tonsils were a active participant in the immune system. Nowadays they only remove them as a last resort.

At least, that is what I've been told about tonsils and why doctors are less likely to remove them now.

Of course we do. It just got overshadowed by the fact he actually posted about it, we read it, and now posted comments.

I never knew what those things were, btw.

Alex, you putz, ever since I first read this I've had this Gawd-awful taste in the back of my throat. No, I don't have tonsil crud - it's just psychosomatic.

But even drinking battery acid would probably not wash it away. Thanks.:twak::twak::twak:

Yes it wasnt done as a routine procedure, everyone in my family seems to be predisposed for tonsillitis. Me and my older brother had ours removed 10yrs ago. My younger brother had his taken out last summer. His were HUGE they were making it difficult for him to swallow when ever he had a sore throat, so they had to come out.
Tonsillectomy does really help fight chronic problems like that.

I had chronic problems with this stuff...until one Dr. suggested eliminating milk and eggs from my diet.

"Cow milk is good....for cows" He said.

I went vegan about 16 years ago.

I've been sick only once since then.

last time i cooked it, this gem came out:

"no shit the buffalo almost went extinct, they're delicious!"

And now to resurrect an old thread:

Im sitting at the house today after my tonsillectomy. I had to wait til I finished up college and I was working to get the procedure done.

The surgery started sometime around 8am and its now 4:15 pm and Im doing fine. I thought I had a seizure when I woke up from surgery, but I was just shivering, which evidently they have meds for.

So far I've had about 50 oz of water and powerade and Im going good as long as I dont laugh, cough or have to swallow more of the above mentioned powerade/water.

Maybe I can post a pictures up......MUCH worse looking than I thought it would be. It looks like they took a red hot icecream scoop and took my tonsils and adenoids out. Gaping hole in my throat (Insert fellatio joke here). This is how I described it on facebook:

I'm pretty sure once I was under, they started the surgery with a solid judo-chop to the throat, and then went on their merry way. They probably locked down on the tonisils with vise grips and then yanked really really hard, and followed that up with a torch to cauterize it. Then when they were done with that, they used that new Black-and-Decker Auto Hammer on my uvula to make it the size of my thumb.
All in all, not too bad.

and then:

Im sorry guys, I was WAY off; it was a Craftsman Auto Hammer I was thinking of.

I'll be fine as soon as the swelling goes down and I stop trying to swallow my uvula

research tonsil stones, I too had an incident like this, I was feeling in my mouth and then I popped something, bunch of tonsils stones popped out, then bled for a while. Persistent brushing and cleansing with a waterpik will help alleviate this.
