Are you sure it's the water pump? I'm having a hard time understanding how being stuck in mud/water would impact the water pump. How deep was the mud/water? Are you sure it's not just a belt squeal? Maybe an idler pully (bearings got wet?).

well thats what I thought it was just water on my belt but I wiggled the top of the water pump pulley and it move pretty good and used a hose to here just where the sound is coming from and its got to be coming from the pump. oh and I had water in my jeep 1" from the trany hump. I'll get pic up here as soon as I can, and it wasn't just mud it was hell. It sure didn't look that deep!

If you've got movement of the water pump pulley, then it sounds like the bearings are shot. I'm surprised you don't also have a leak at the pump, since that much movement should also destroy the seal at the pulley shaft.

I'm still not sure what sitting/going into the mud/water would do to the pump shaft bearings, but strange things could happen.

I'd say you'd better replace the pump right away...before it shears off and does collateral damage to something else. They aren't that expensive, about $60 if I remember correctly.

is there any tricks that may make the install of the new water pump any easier.

Remove the plastic shroud to increase access. Remove the fan/clutch assemply, then the belt, paying attention to the routing and the direction of rotation of the water pump. Remove the hoses to the pump, then the pump. When I did mine I was planning to replace the radiator hoses so I just pulled my radiator to make it easier to get at everything, but it's not required, at least not with a two-row (stock width) radiator. I would replace any of the hoses or the serpentine belt if questionable while I was there. Good Luck
