Building a J20?

Well I'm interested in building a J20. A friend of mine has one in his back yard I can pick up for like $300. D60 rear, D44 front I beleive. I think it has the 360 as well. It was running when he got it 3 years ago, needs some tinkering, but will more then likely start up and drive. It has no bed but the cab and frame are in great shape.

I'm sick of driving my cherokee every day, so its for sale and I have a stock Explorer as my new DD. The J20 is appealing because it's cheap, already has tough axles, a real frame, and I wont feel bad when I hit/break stuff.

Where can I find info on building it? Google didn't help too much, I couldnt find any good pics or forums, even though I'm sure they're out there. Anyone have any pics or info they can give me? Idealy I'd like to see the J20 on a set of 44's, because the 34's under my Cherokee just arn't big enough.

That should be a fun truck to play with. Double check for the 360, up here at least its more common to see an inline six in them. I'm not 100%, but I think that D60 rear will be a 30 spline 1.31", not the big 35spline. It should already have nice low gears, probably 4.88's...

I say go for it and have some fun with it. Some folks find them ugly, but I think they are beautiful in a weird way...

I wish I knew how to get pics off my Razor and onto the computer. I took a shot of the front end, its in pretty good shape. They are pretty ugly, I agree with you there, but I know it would look mean on some 44's.

I saw a picture over on Pirate of a J20 with no bed and a bobbed rear with some of those big truck round fender thingies over the back wheels. Looked like it could go anywhere it wanted to go. I had about 39" tires I think.

what year? in addition to the little xj, i've got an 89 grand wagoneer, the thing's a beast. it'll see a spring-over, shackle flip, and 35's....eventually. i'd love to have j-truck.
