I know there's a few of you FJ-80 fans/owners out there lurking.

What year, engine and option packs are worth looking for?

Was the diesel available in the US or Can? What are the rough real world MPG ratings for diesel or gas?

I would love to have a diesel FZJ80. Not available in US afaik.

Yeah, I dunno if they were available up here either. In the late 90s or so most companies gave up on importing non-US compliant vehicles into Canada. (bastids)

They're awesome, nearly bulletproof vehicles. The gas mileage sucks. 13's-14's.

No diesels, especially in CA. If you are in a swap friendy area, the overseas diesel is VERY, VERY nice, 4.5 liter, 24 valve inline six.

Toyota engine bays are very swap friendly, the cabling is all the same length and plugs in the same way. Buy a front clip from Japan.

An 80 on 35's with the 4.5 TDI would be a dream.

Pimp factor. It SEEMS like more LX's came with dual lockers.

Optional equipment on both, but it came on some sort of popular package with the LX.

Diesel LC`s can be had for the right price. The FJ40 my Brother in law has gets 30mpg with the 4 cyl. All the gassers Ive had got 12 at best.

Interesting thread with MPG numbers (US and Imp gallons- beware).

Surprising - figured the mpg(imp) numbers would be the mpg(US) numbers.
