I was lurking in my local wrecking yard today and found a D44 from an XJ( one drum was taken apart) and also an 8.8 from a 95' with the discs. The 44 is $400 and the 8.8 is $500. each come with a months warranty. I think they would come down a bit in price for each though if anyone is interested.

XJ 44=3.54s
not sure on 8.8's, I am sure that gary knows. I would pay $225 max for an XJ D44. More and more are showing up in jyards as 87-88's are trashed.

explorer rear ends can be had in 3.55, 3.73s and 4.10s maybe more. and can be delivered to your doorstep for $275 minus brake calipers. Its a bit of a hassle to find the calipers but you can find them for under $100 pretty easy.

Hey Riley, Which place is that at? I got my 44 about a year ago from D&H (or something like that) and they had two D44's at the time. One of them had some other shaft in it. They originally tried to sell it so me but when I got it home, I took the shaft out and it was quite a bit smaller in diameter and of course didn't fit in the spider gears. It was a pain to explain it to them and to get them to give me the correct shaft.

Seriously, don't pay that much. I looked around and turned them down for 300, finally payed 200 for mine. Keep looking because they ARE out there. 8)

email Gene at LKQ BGdevor@LKQCORP.com LKQ is a core parts yard so they get big money for stuff like brake calipers. Thats why they come without calipers. When I ordered we had a missunderstanding I thought complete was complete, he thought complete was minus brake calipers  But the price was still okay. mine was a 99 with 4.10s and a Trak lok for $300. LKQ is up in redding but they make daily runs this direction so their truck just droped it off at my house. He had lots of 3.73 and 3.55 axles I think he implied they would be cheaper than the 4.10 axle since they only had one at the time.

does the 8.8 use a 1310 u-joint?

8.8s use a flange style input so they can be 1310 or whatever you want.

The guys selling this stuff are not professionals, they really have no clue what they have. Zion, it is Garcia Auto wreckers in Salida. I am sure if anyone wanted to talk them down and had some cash in their hand at the time everything would go for a lot less. Unfortunately you would have to go there and talk to them since they dont all speak English.
