d30 axle differences 95 to 01

So I was looking at my spare d30 axles today, getting ready to replace the u-joints for an hp30 buildup to replace my lp30. I have an '01 passenger side and a 95 driver side sitting there and notice that the 95 axle shaft is thicker. Using a tape measure (no caliper available) it appears that the 95 axle is about 1/8" thicker and has a lot more clearance and flex than the '01 axle. It also appears to be already ground for the snap ring ujoints that I am planning to install. Is the 95 axle stronger than the '01?
