So Lyle and I went up to Reiter after school for my Shake down run. This was my first run on the new gears, locker, lift, tires, and rear axle. I didn't find anyone to weld my shock mounts on as the guy who was going to do it never got back to me, so I went without shocks. Everything went smooth for Lyle and I's rig, Lyle has no troubles, and I just had to keep an eye on my temps as my rig likes to over heat a bunch now but popping the hood kept things in good order. Also my front passenger shock (Bilstein 5125s) came off as my upper bolt got loose and fell out, luckly I realized it right after it happend and everything we needed to put it back on was laying right there, so we fixed that and got going.

We ran the lower trail, where I got stuck in the mud (that's what happens when you lead) and no matter what we did I couldn't get out the last bit, so Lyle tried winching me a couple times and we finally got out. Other then that and a rock rail pinch, I made it the rest of the day with ease on the new locker. We WANTED to run Rhino land, but ran out of time. Instead we made due with going up Sac up and then to the Wall.

Glad you made it up to try everything out, I'm jelous. I think I got stuck in that same mud hole the first time I went up with my locker. How were the 4.88 gears? I just got my install kits in the mail yesterday so now its a race to see if work will let me off long enough to get the gears in before NW fest.

The gears did fine as far as I could tell, it takes less throttle to get power which is nice. Not any huge noticeable difference though, but that might be because I hadn't driven my rig in so long during the install.

Then I bet it hurts knowing both those rigs are owned by 18 year olds. :)

Pfffftt!!! High school is a great time to build a rig, before the expense of college and/or real life kick in. If you have a decent part-time job, all of your money should be going into your rig instead of wasting it on rent/mortgage, food, utilities, etc. Once you have kids thrown in the mix, it's even tougher to squirrel away funds for a decent build-up.

You've got it backwards, Scott. You two turds should have the nicest rigs on the board. The fact that only one of you is even close should be a source of shame and derision.

Haha ouchhhh. Well hey, some of us don't have a large sum of cash in savings. (and a rig that doesn't break ever)

I like Fubar's idea of spending all your moo-laaaa on your Jeep, but I have a bit of a twist for you guys.

Yeah, build your rig, throw every penny you have into it, wheel it, break it, fix it. Repeat to your heart's content.

When you're ready for College, SELL THAT BUILT JEEP. Buy a cheap, used stocker and put the rest of your money in the bank. Hopefully that'll put $4000 in the bank. Invest said money into some type of retirement fund, and never touch it.

Build the new Jeep up. Notice how once you're in school, it takes 5x as long to do something, like save to build your Jeep? Yeah, get ready for that sh-poop. Once you graduate and get a real JOB (Which stands for Just Over Broke) and a wife and a house and a kid :helpme:, note how you are making 5x more per hour than before college, and how it somehow takes you 20x longer to build your Jeep? :smsoap:That's life.

OH, and 40 years down the road, with compound interest and such, that first Jeep will have funded your retirement*.

Of course, there's always another viewpoint. The world is supposed to end in 2012, right? Do what it takes to barely make it through the next 3 years... 'cuz it ain't gonna matter no-mo after 2012.

meh, I seem to buy nicer junk as I get older and I look back and realise I should have just kept my old junk and dumped more money into it, money was sure a lot easier to spend when I was 18 and didn't worry about a mortgage and car payments, insurance on multiple vehicles, a girlfriend with way to expensive of tastes etc. etc.

oh the good old days.

Compliment still stand, it doesn't matter how old you are when you build something, all that matters is the end result.
