I have recently discovered that most of the national auto parts data bases, including the one 5-90 copied to me recently, (only exception I found was 4wd.com), have the wrong part numbers listed for inner and outer grease seals on the 87-89, XJ, D-35 rear, non C-clip, axle.

They list #2146 (Timken # I think) as the inner, but it is the outer seal.

They list 99912S as the outer, and it does NOT fit the inner or outer.

The correct inner seal is a Timken # 13671, or use a Federal Mogul (National) with a part #473214, 1.375 x 2.250 x 0.312, and the Bar code is 7 24956 14083 1.

I had a hell of time getting the inner grease seal!!!!! But in the end, I prevailed!!!!:D

Thats because the jeep gods are mad at you for putting time into a d-35.....:rof:

The only reason I had to work on it was because some ditzi teenage girl drove her Nissan Eclipse into the side of jeep and bent the axle.:D
