I just got a '96 Cherokee 4.0 with 114k miles. Judging by the looks of the other fluids, and the kinda harsh shifting-- the transmission might need fluid.

Should I flush it? or will this bring on problems?

What's the difference between flushing it and just changing it? Should I change it?

What about this product Seafoam I keep hearing about? Can you run that stuff thru the tranny or bad idea?

My Jeep's previous owner didn't really take care of much maintance and the car is running rough. The other problem I have is a CEL for Random Cylinder Misfirings All Cylinders-- I have read the thread on the fixes for this one, but I was wondering if this could be the reason I think my tranny is shifting hard--

How often is tranny fluid supposed to get changed?? I heard some people have said not to change it after a certain point?

i'd just pull the drain plug and drain out about a gallon or so, then refill it and run around the block a few times and continue this process a few times until you're running all new fluid

Yea, unless you want to pay a shop for a complete change. I think thats in the $100 range if I'm not mistaken. Gotta say up front, if there is something physically wrong with it dont expect the flush to fix it.. It may help but flushing does not repair damage..

The trans in my wifes olds was going, we stuck can of seafoam in there and ran it for a week the put it on the machine for a complete change, it helped and the trans worked again for about 3 months then started getting spotty again. I had a jasper put in, remanufacturered, works better than the stock one ever did..

If you reman the tranny it's a good idea the have the converter flushed. A converter can have as much cxxp in it as the pan.

I work in a shop where we do this all the time. Over 100k mi, change filter and have it flushed. ive had good luck using Lucas as an additive.
