I was wondering if anyone on here is running the TnT Y-link set-up in either the 5.5 or 7.5 inch set-up. I would like to get your opinion on how you like it and if possible maybe come take a look at it in person. I am looking for opinions from people who are actually running the set-up, I am not looking to turn this into a x vs. y discussion. Just honest opinions on how you like it and what you don't like about it.

Is there anything about it that you don't like or wish you would have done different?

It handles well on surface streets, and has performed great offroad. Longer shocks maybe, It wants to reach farther.

I had the Y link and really liked it, solid drive on the road, and excellent flex on the trail!!

I may have to come out once things get a little more settled here. Me and the wife are in the middle of buying a condo so apparently me running off to go play in the dirt is out of the question at this very moment! But thank you very much for the offer I will have to keep you guys in mind once I finally get some free time.

Nope. I am the Green 2 door with Oregon plates running around. You would most likely see me over by the Irvine auto center. I am a tech for VW.

This is a good topic, Anyone who has this kit the only complaint I hear that worries me is unloading on steep hill climbs. Anyone have experince with that? And how bad is it?

The only problem I have had on hills so far is if I don't get the t-case all the way into 4XL. :^) I only see it from the inside. Scott x2, Ray, Curt?

Havent experienced that at all... Ive run up some decent climbs and havent had any reason to be scared of unloading.

Its an easy fix though, just add a limit straps, or one in the center of the axle and youll be fine.

are you guys not running limiting straps?

Yup...They're called shocks. :^)

No, nothing specificly for limiting travel.

Nope im not running any. Might add them later on, but as of now i dont see a real need for them.

BigSteve
May 18th, 2009, 14:37
really? I just figured that it would add unneeded stress to the shock at full drop but i guess thinking about it how often are you really at full drop? not very often i would guess. since we are on the subject what kind of shocks are you guy running and what length?

Limit straps are a good idea, I have broken the bottom eye off of shocks before using them as a limit for the down travel. What happens then you kick the spring out.

I run 12" Rancho 9000XLs in the front and 14" Bilstein 5125s in the rear.

I have a set of 12" 7100s for the front but i just need to take them to Bilstein to get revalved and ill throw those in instead.

No, nothing specificly for limiting travel. Paul's flexes well, thinkin he might be able to put longer shocks on the front. have to mess with it at Scotts some day and see!

I really like the setup for driving, on and off road. Comfy on the highway and a cadilac in the dirt.

Theonly thing I dont like about it is inability to service trans and transfer case without dropping the belly pan. If the y-link were bolted somewhere else it wouldnt be so bad.

I have had an issue with unloading on a couple of occasions but your going to get that with alomost any lift that allows full droop of the front suspension. limit straps will help with that.

I hope this helps.

True, the belly pan is a little pain, but for the overall protection it gives you, ill sacrifice a little more time to drop the pan.

Unloading is a common issue with most radius arms. It is quite common to see folks 'manage' their limit strap while on the trail depending on the obstacle or they attach it to the front winch.

Overall the TNT is a nice set up and well made. A very impressive belly pan support as well.

i want a long arm 3 link so bad it's driving me nuts, but i cant ever save the 3000 for all the stuff i need to make it happen, and all i want is a little 3.5 maybe 4.5" lift, i think 3.5" would be more practical for what i'd need it for cuz its a daily driver and i'd plan on doing a inch higher in the rear so i could carry stuff in the rear without so much rear sag.

Rock Krawler sells their 3 link upgrade for $700 thru Desertfab.com. Then you can piece together your springs from whatever you want. If you're only doing 3.5" you can get away with a t case drop, most likely. The newer XJs can tend to be more picky. Even if you do need an SYE, you can get a hack and tap and double cardan drive shaft from DPG for under $400.

all that sounds great, but im kind of a firm believer in doing it right the first time... so if i gotta spend 500 on a sye and 2500 on the lift to get everything to be good, then thats the sorta commitment i need to take, i dont want to throw some S10 spings in the rear and grand cherokee coils up from and do some hack n tap just to gain 3 inches yanno?

x2 on MaxxXJ's comment. Do it right the first time or continuosly fix the problems you create from not doing it right the first time. The end cost ends up being about the same the only difference is the headaches and the cussing along the way!
