rear diff help

stxcherokee

NAXJA Forum User
long story short, this is where we are at now after replacing tail cone driveshaft and both yokes on a 96 cherokee 4x4 MT dana 30 in the rear

the rear axle was grinding so we pulled the cover to find one of the spider gears missing a tooth. Found the chunk of tooth no other metal shavings though. Noticed that the ring gear to the pinion gear had about an 1/8" of play.. is this normal??

what is the best plan to fix this problem?? Cheapest that is.. JY axle, new gears, new spider gears??

do you really have a dana 30 in the rear of your jeep? i can guarantee not

you have a d30 up front and either a dana 35 or chrysler 8.25 in the back

its not uncommon for a D35 to break. grab another from a junkyard or many on here give them away for free or really cheap. hell, some guys cant even get rid of d35s by giving them away. or you could upgrade to a better axle like an 8.25", D44, ford 8.8 etc. search "axle swap" for more info
